History

According to some theories the place of Phoenicians under the name vacuus (about: thrown out ) was founded, according to others only by the Romans as Vacua (after a dry side of the Rio Vouga ). Large parts of today's circle, however, were still under water. At about the independence of the Kingdom of Portugal in 1139, the sea pulled back further. 1190, King Sancho I the place its first town charter ( Foral ), which were renewed in 1514 by Manuel I..

Culture and sights

Among the various monuments of Vagos are particularly wind and water mills and religious buildings, including going back to a chapel built in 1452, pointing to several extensions Baroque and Renaissance parish church Igreja de Vagos Paroquial ( Igreja de Sao Tiago also )

With the Ria de Aveiro begins a nature reserve in the north of the circle.

The Museu do Brincar 2012 is a museum in Vagos that childhood and children's games dedicated.

Since 2009, the Vagos Open Air Metal Festival takes place here every year, to be held on 9 and 10 August 2013, a new place, the more central estate Quinta do Ega, located outside the city.
