Vahdat

Wahdat ( Tajik Ваҳдат / Wahdat; Russian Вахдат / Wachdat; until 1936 Jangi - Bosor, Ordschonikidseabad to 1992, to 2003 Kofarnihon ) is a city in Tajikistan, about 20 km east of the capital Dushanbe. The city has 45 693 inhabitants (Jan 2009).

History

Wahdat was founded on September 17, 1927 and was then called Jangi Bosor ( Tajik Янги - бозор, which means New Market ). The city served as an additional market for the large market in Dushanbe, which took place every Monday (Dushanbe Tajik means on Monday). On April 3, 1936 renamed after the Soviet politician Grigory Ordzhonikidze and bore the name Ordschonikidseabad ( Tajik Орҷоникидзеобод ) until 25 December 1991. The city was renamed back to Kofarnihon ( Tajik Кофарниҳон, which means about refuge of the unbelievers ), after the eponymous river. After the end of the Civil War the city on 7 April 2003 was renamed for the last time and now bears the name of Wahdat ( Tajik Ваҳдат means unity ).

Geographical location

The city lies on both sides of the Kafirnigan which gives the city from two tributaries ( Sardai - Mijona and Sorbo ) about 50 km to the northeast. In the north of the town flows into the river in the Simigantsch Kafirnigan, in the south Iljak, the west out of the city leads further into the Kafirnigan. Wahdat is placed in the mouth of the Romit gorge, where the numerous recreational areas and sanatoriums are located.

Boroughs

On 25 December 1991, the city and the surrounding villages and communities were united into one administrative unit. Since then, the city consists of 10 districts, S. G. Dschamoat ( Tajik ҷамоат, which means village council ): Abdulwosijew, Tschujangaron, Simigantsch, Guliston, Romit, Dusti, Ismoilow, Tschorssu, Bahor and Burunow. Jump to the city also includes the communities Rohati, Jakkatol and Kiptschok.
