Väike-Pungerja

Väike Pungerja is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Mäetaguse ( Mäetaguse vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description and History

The village has 44 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011).

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1398. In the 17th century the estate was established that at the time belonged to the estate of Purtse. Am Bach Väike Pungerja ( Väike Pungerja oja ) are still building some of the material obtained as the manager's house, a storage and stables.

Three kilometers east of Väike Pungerja is the largest mining area of oil shale in Estonia. It bears the name "Estonia".

Coaching

At the old postal route between Riga and Tartu on Jõhvi to Saint Petersburg the post station of Väike Pungerja was founded in the 17th century. 1830/31, the wooden building with a single-storey stone building was replaced. The historic building is now a historical monument. At the station included a guest house, stables, sauna and additional buildings.
