The village Vaivara (Estonian Vaivara küla ) is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia. It is the capital of gleichmigen rural community ( Vaivara vald ).

Description and History

Vaivara ( German Waiwara ) has 169 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2012). It is located south of the city Sillamäe. The distance to Narva is about 25 km.

The place was first mentioned in 1424 as Wayver documented.

Station Vaivara

The place is located on the 1870 completed railway line that connects the Estonian capital Tallinn to the border town of Narva. The railway line is now operated by the Estonian Edelaraudtee.

The historic station building was destroyed during the Second World War. During the Stalin era, a new stone building was built.
