Template: Infobox city in Portugal / Maintenance / Web page is blank Valbom is a town in the district Gondomar in the District of Porto in Portugal. The town lies north along the Douro River and has long been a center for fishermen. The name goes back to its central location in the valley of Ribeiro de Gramido ( Portuguese: Vale bom, dt: Good Valley ).

History

Finds indicate a human presence in the district since the Paleolithic period, however, are concrete evidence of a settlement in Valbom only since the Romans present, named the area Vallisbona. Probably the present town developed in the course of re- settlements during the Reconquista. In 1122 Valbom was already an independent municipality.

The village belonged to the circle has always been unchanged Gondomar, but they lost in 1898 areas by assignments to the community Campanhã.

On August 23, 1986 Valbom became a small town ( Vila ), and collected on 26 January 2005 to the city ( Cidade ).

Management

Until the administrative reorganization on September 29, 2013 Valbom was a municipality ( freguesia ) in a circle ( concelho ) Gondomar. Since it is part of the newly created municipality União de Gondomar the Freguesias (São Cosme ), Valbom e Jovim, which also includes the former municipalities of São Cosme and Jovim belong.

On 30 June 2011, the municipality had 14,408 inhabitants in an area of 4.4 square km.
