Valemount

Valemount is one of the main towns of the Canadian Mount Robson Valley. It is located about 300 kilometers northeast of Kamloops in British Columbia, 120 km west of Jasper, Alberta, and 300 km southeast of Prince George. At the time of the census of 2001, there were 1195 people here, which is a decrease of the population compared to that of 1996 ( 1303) by more than 8 %. This is probably due to the crisis in the woodworking industry since Valemount primarily lives of the sector in addition to tourism.

The census in 2011 showed that for the district municipality had a total population of 1,020 inhabitants .. The population of the city has thereby increased since the census of 2006, only 0.2%, while the population in British Columbia grew by 7.0 % at the same time.

The granting of local autonomy for the church took place on December 13, 1962 ( incorporated as the Village Municipality ).

The attractiveness as a tourist destination owes Valemount its scenic location between Cariboo Mountain Ridge and Rocky Mountains, near the headwaters of the Fraser River and Mount Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies. The convenient traffic location Valemounts near the intersection of Highways 5 and 16 ( Yellowhead Highway Junction ) is beneficial for Valemount. In the winter, it draws primarily snowmobile tourists to Valemount. Alpine Skiing is more in the 90 km south of Valemount nearby Blue River ( Heli Skiing ) and operated in Jasper.
