Geography

Valentano is located 117 km north of Rome, 116 km south of Siena and 33 km north-west of Viterbo. The municipality is located on the northwestern edge of the Lazio region on the border with Tuscany

The historic center is located on a hill Volsiner the mountains that surround Lake Bolsena, whose western shore of Town 6 km away. The modern suburbs Felceti and Villa Fontane lie in the plane between the hills and the lake.

Valentano is a member of the Comunità montana Alta Tuscia Laziale.

The neighboring municipalities are clockwise Latera, Capranica, Capodimonte, Piansano, Cellere, Ischia di Castro, Farnese and Pitigliano ( GR).

Geology

Valentano located in a volcanic formerly active region, the so-called Apparato Vulsinio. The city itself is located on the caldera of one of the four major volcanoes, the Laterakrater. The nearby Lake Bolsena itself was created by the collapse of underground magma chambers. On the volcanic past still remember numerous thermal springs in the area.

The municipality is located in the seismic zone 3 (slightly endangered).
