Valentin Weigel

Valentin Weigel ( also Weichel; born August 7, 1533 Obernaundorf, † June 10, 1588 in Zschopau ) was a German mystic and theosophical writer.

Life

With the assistance of the Council of Komerstadt George Weigel attended from 1549 to 1554, the Prince's School St. Afra in Meissen and then studied philosophy, mathematics and natural sciences, theology later in Leipzig. In 1558 he was bachelor and master. Since 1564, he studied and taught at Wittenberg, and was ordained on November 16, 1567 by the General Superintendent Paul Wittenberger boar as a pastor violinist in Zschopau.

Weigel hid his life Sebastian Franck and Jacob Boehme related mystical conceptions. So was printed during his lifetime only a funeral sermon from him. It was not until twenty years after his death reached many of his writings, promoted by his successor Benedict Biedermann and his sons, Joachim and Nathanael, for printing. 1626 his books were publicly burned.

Weigel fought against the people potentates, princes and preachers. He relied in particular on Meister Eckhart and Johannes Tauler. Thomas Müntzer, Andreas Bodenstein, Kaspar Schwenckfeld and the Anabaptist kingdom of Munster were to him as like-minded people. His ATTACHING to the Neo-Platonism and the German mysticism ideas were part of the German heretic movement and had an impact on poets such as Angelus Silesius and Czepko.
