Valentino Bucchi

Valentino Bucchi ( born November 29, 1916 in Florence, † May 9, 1976 in Rome) was an Italian composer, music critic and educator.

Life

The son of a horn player and a violinist graduated after studying philosophy at the University of Florence a musical education at the Liceo Musicale Cherubini at Vito Frazzi and Luigi Dallapiccola.

Since 1938 he was music critic for the magazine La Nazione in Florence. 1939 his one-act opera Giuoco del Barone was first performed, which took the attention of the music critic Bruno Barilli and in 1956 won the Prix Italia. After 1941 only isolated music reviews have appeared from him. Between 1945 and 1947 he wrote reviews for La Nazione del Popolo and Mattino dell'Italia Centrale.

Since 1945 Bucchi taught at the conservatories of Florence and Venice. From 1957 to 1974 he headed the Conservatory of Perugia, then up to his death that of Florence. In addition, he acted as the head of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana (1958-1960), the Teatro Comunale di Bologna (1963-1967) and the Accademia Chigiana in Siena.

After the death of the Associazione Musicale Valentino Bucchi Bucchis was founded in 1977 (since 1990 Fondazione Valentino Bucchi ), the Premio Valentino Bucchi the awards to young musicians and composers year.
