Valenton
Valenton is a commune with 11,940 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Val -de- Marne in the Île- de -France region. Administratively, it is the Arrondissement Créteil and the eponymous canton Valenton whose capital is allocated.
Geography
The municipality is located in the agglomeration of Paris, some 15 kilometers south-east from the center of the French capital. Full lying to the south of the department of Val -de- Marne, it is bounded by the department Essonne and peripheral part of the natural landscape Brie. Valenton is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Créteil in the north and northeast, Limeil- Brévannes in the east, southeast and south in Yerres, Crosne the southwest, Villeneuve -Saint -Georges in the west and Choisy- le- Roi in the northwest.
History
In the 6th century a village settlement in the books of the Abbey of Saint- Germain -des- Prés first appears.
Until the 20th century it is at Valenton a small village until 1936, the quarters Vignes and Val Pompadour be built.
Since the 1920s Valenton is a stronghold of the Communist Party of France. With the exception of the time of the German occupation of France, or in the period of the Vichy government, the PCF always presented the mayor.
