Valenzano

Valenzano is a southern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 17,832 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the province of Bari, in Puglia. The place is located about seven kilometers south of Bari.

History

A first settlement of the area probably took the Peucetians, an Italic tribe, in the 4th century BC instead. Relatively soon after the settlement is likely to be put under Hellenistic influence. Documentary evidence is a settlement from 845 AD, under the name Valenziano or Valentiniano. The Saracens destroyed the place at the end of the 10th century. From the 12th century dominated different women and families about the place.

Economy and Transport

Since 1970, numerous research institutions have settled here and so form the so-called Tecnopolis.

East of the village will perform the Strada Statale 100 from Bari to Taranto. To the west is the Autostrada A14, which runs through Apulia direction Massafra and Taranto. The Valenzano Valenzano Lamie Station and the railway station is served by trains on non-electrified railway line Bari - Putignano. Since 2012, the railway line is electrified, however, among other things with money from the European Union. To this end, bridges will be renewed and built noise barriers.
