Valeri Nikitin

Valery Alexandrovich Nikitin (Russian Валерий Александрович Никитин; born June 20, 1939 in Moscow, † 13 January 2002) is a former Soviet ice hockey player who spent most of his career at Chimik Woskressensk and 1967 and 1970 with the Soviet national team became world champion.

Career

Valeri Nikitin spent nearly his entire career at Chimik Woskressensk. Between 1956 and 1975 he played for Chimik in Wysschaja League, the top division of the USSR, scoring 134 goals in 510 games. In 1972 he was given permission to play in Austria for WAT Stadlau. For Stadtlau he was active until 1974.

Early in his career, he was appointed to the team of the Soviet national ice hockey team. On November 25, 1960, he was in a game against Canada for the first time for the Sbornaja on the ice. His international career was crowned with the gold medal at the Ice Hockey World Championships in 1967 and 1970. For the national team, he scored 3 goals in 43 internationals. On 21 December 1970 he played his last international match. In 1967 he was honored with inclusion in the List of Merited Master of Sports of the USSR and Russia in ice hockey.

After he finished his playing career, Nikitin works as a trainer, including Salavat Yulaev Ufa at (1975-1979), Molot Perm (1980, 1982) and Chimik Woskressensk ( 1995-1997). Later, he supervised the junior team Belje Medwedi in Moscow.

Nikitin died on 13 January 2002 and was buried at the cemetery Wagankowoer in Moscow.
