Ordinary corn salad ( Valeria locusta )
The genus field salad ( Valerianella ) belongs to the subfamily of valerian plants ( Valerianoideae ) within the Honeysuckle ( Caprifoliaceae ). The genus includes about 80 species in Eurasia, North Africa and North America. The best-known representative is the Ordinary corn salad ( Valeria locusta ).

The name " Rapunzel " as a generic term for lettuce and him similar types of lettuce (such as the Rapunzel bellflower and more bluebells, the spiked devil's claw and the Common Evening Primrose ) has a fateful significance in the eponymous fairy tale in the collection of the Brothers Grimm.
