Valerie Hobson

Valerie Hobson ( born April 14, 1917 in Larne, Ireland (now Northern Ireland), † November 13, 1998 in London; Complete name: Valerie Babette Louise Hobson ) was a British actress.

Life

The daughter of a British officer graduated from the London Royal Academy of Dramatic Art and made his debut as a teenager on stage and in film. At 17, she received a call of Hollywood, where they were beaten with roles in thrillers and horror movies did not find her pleasant artistic tasks. Her most famous roles during this period were the unhappily married wives of the " Baron Frankenstein" (not to be confused with the title character played by Elsa Lanchester ) in Bride of Frankenstein and the Werewolf of London (both 1935).

Back home, she became one of the leading actresses of British cinema and in their roles to the epitome of elegant and well-bred English lady. Among her successes were films such as test flight QE 97 ( 1939) with Laurence Olivier, The years in between with Michael Redgrave, David Lean's Great Expectations (both 1946), Restless Blood (1947 ) with Stewart Granger and especially the classic Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949 ) with Alec Guinness. Mid -1950s, she retired from the film business.

From 1939 until the divorce in 1952 she was married to the film producer Anthony Havelock - Allan, with whom she had two children. In 1954 she married the politician John Profumo ( 1915-2006 ), who in 1960 appointed British Defense Minister. While the unprecedented for that time Profumo affair in 1963, which led to his retirement from politics, Valerie Hobson gave to her husband and remained until her death in 1998 at his side.
