Vali Ionescu

Vali Ionescu - Constantin (also Valeria Ionescu; born August 31, 1960 in Turnu Măgurele ) is a former Romanian long jumper.

Vali Ionescu won at the European Indoor Championships in 1982 after the two West German Sabine Everts and Karin Hanel the bronze with 6.52.

On 1 August 1982 improved Ionescu and her compatriot Anisoara Cuşmir the world record in the long jump, standing at 7.09 until then. First Cuşmir came to 7.15, then Ionescu increased to 7.20. Thus the two Romanians were the favorites for the European Championships, which took place in Athens in early September. Ionescu won with 6.79 before Cuşmir with 6.73. Third place went to Russian Elena Ivanova, also with 6.73. Was fourth with 6.71 Heike Daute who should write under the name Heike Drechsler long jump story after her marriage.

At the World Championships in 1983 Ionescu resigned from 6.62 in ninth in the preliminaries. World Champion was Heike Daute before Anisoara Cuşmir.

The 1984 Olympic Games were boycotted by the Soviet bloc, and so in the meantime married Heike Drechsler did not occur to. Romania but knocked it won Anisoara Stanciu, as Cuşmir was now called, had also married, with 6.96 before Vali Ionescu with 6.81.

At the European Championships in 1986 Ionescu finished with 6.81 again ranked 4th

At a height of 1.72 m her competition weight was 64 kg.
