Valle de la Luna (Bolivia)

The Valle de la Luna ( Moon Valley ) is located about 10 kilometers southeast of La Paz, the seat of government of Bolivia. The Valley of the Moon consists of thousands of rocks, crevices, mounds and crater-like formations. The towers and pyramids are gray-brown to reddish and almost no vegetation. The Valle de la Luna was formed over millions of years by erosion and climate contrasts. Heavy rainfall and temperature fluctuations lead to the removal of the clay soil and gives rise to the bizarre formations.

Reachable the Valle de la Luna is fastest from a taxi from La Paz. By formations leads a signposted footpath which is well accessible in dry weather.

Previously the inhospitable area was pretty deserted, most recently takes the colonization pressure.
