The Valle de los Ingenios (Spanish: Valley of the Sugar Mills ) extends east of the Cuban city of Trinidad. In 1988 it was taken by the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in the list of World Heritage Sites. A total of 65 individual historical cities such as sugar mills, colonial houses and slave quarters were taken into account.

A major attraction is the Torre de Iznaga in the center of the valley, also known as the Slave Tower. He served the supervision of the slaves in the cane fields. The seven -storey, 50 -meter-high bell tower was built by the planter family Iznaga in 1816. The slaves were called by the bell tower to work and they were monitored from here. Unrest and gatherings of slaves that could lead to riots should be noticed by the guards early. Today the tower is considered to be a memorial. You can climb the tower and enjoy a panoramic view over the valley " Valle de los Ingenios ". Is also to visit the former home of Iznaga family. The Mirador de la Loma five kilometers north-east of Trinidad also offers a view over the entire valley.

In the north of the Valle de los Ingenios is surrounded by the Sierra del Escambray, in the south separating it from the low foothills of the Caribbean Sea.
