Valleroy (Doubs)

Valleroy is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Valleroy is located at 260 m, about 18 km north- northeast of the city of Besançon (air line). The village is located on a hill on the southern edge of the Talniederung Ognon opposite Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux, in the extreme northwest of the Doubs.

The area of ​​3.05 km ² municipal area comprises a portion of Ognon Valley. The western and northern boundary runs along the Ognon, the large river bends here flows through a flat Talniederung, which is approximately one to two miles wide. Former gravel pits in the valley were filled with water. From the river, the municipality's area extends south across the wide flood plain in a gently undulating landscape that is, persisted partly under arable and meadow land in the east, especially with forest ( Bois du Chanoi, Bois de la Chaille ). With 278 m is reached on a hill in the Bois du Chanoi the highest elevation of Valleroy.

Neighboring communities of Valleroy are Cirey in the north, Rigney in the east, Thurey -le -Mont to the south and Chambornay -lès- Bellevaux in the West.

History

In the Middle Ages Valleroy was under the rule of the abbey Bellevaux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. Today Valleroy part of the community association Communauté de communes du Val de la Dame Blanche.

Attractions

The so-called Château is a late 19th century manor house built in a park with an orangery.

Population

With 144 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Valleroy is one of the smallest municipalities of the department of Doubs. Once the population has consistently had in the first half of the 20th century in the area between 45 and 65 people, a significant population increase has been recorded since the mid- 1970s. Since then, the population has nearly tripled.

Economy and infrastructure

Valleroy was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) embossed village. Even today, the inhabitants live on the merits of the activity in the first sector. Outside of the primary sector, there are few jobs in the village. Some employed persons are also commuters who engage in the surrounding larger towns of their work.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. Accessible is the village either by Moncey or Cirey. The nearest links to the A36 motorway is located at a distance of about 12 km.
