Vally Weigl

Vally Weigl (born 11 September 1894 in Vienna, † 25 December 1982 New York, NY, USA) was an Austrian- American composer and music therapist.

Pick Valerie was born in 1894 as the daughter of Josef Pick lawyer and his wife Charlotte, nee Rubinstein, in Vienna. Her sister was Käthe Leichter. The musical talent Vally Picks was already evident in his early youth. She took piano lessons, took after high school in Vienna in music history studies with Guido Adler and studied composition with Karl Weigl, whom she married in 1921. With the seizure of power by the National Socialists in Austria in 1938, she was forced to flee and emigrated with her husband and her son in the United States. The early days of exile were to take the difficulties of the couple Weigl in their new home base, marked. During the late 1949 Karl Weigl no longer was able to continue his success as a composer and teacher in Vienna, Vally Weigl began with his first compositions. In addition to composing, she devoted herself from the 1950s reinforced the music therapy.

In 2009 ( 10th District ) was the Vally Weigl - alley named after her in Vienna favorites.
