Valparaiso is a city in Porter County, Indiana in the United States. With 31 730 inhabitants, it is the second largest city in Porter County. It is an hour drive from Chicago and South Bend away. The Valparaiso University has 4,000 students.

History

The land on the Valparaiso was built was purchased in October 1832 by the Potawatomi Indians. During this time, the little Indian village Chipuaw at Sauk Trail. On this land the city Porterville was founded in 1836. Shortly thereafter, the city was renamed in Valparaiso because of the city founder David Porter had fought during the War of 1812 in the vicinity of Valparaíso ( Chile).

Geography

The city lies on the Valparaiso Moraine, the St. Lawrence Seaway. In winter, fall in just 20 kilometers south of Lake Michigan lying city due to the Lake effect snows a lot of snow.
