Valserine

The river runs through a narrow wooded valley

The Valserine is a river in France, which runs in the regions of Rhône -Alpes and Franche -Comté. It rises in the Jura almost on the border with Switzerland, southwest of the top of La Dole, on the northwestern border of the municipality of Divonne- les- Bains. The river drains generally in a southwesterly direction through the Regional Natural Park of Haut -Jura and ends after 48 kilometers in the district of Bellegarde- sur -Valserine as a right tributary of the Rhône. On their way the Valserine crosses the Ain department, is in its upper reaches the border to neighboring Jura and finally meets with its mouth at the department of Haute- Savoie.
