Valtteri Filppula

Valtteri Filppula ( born March 20, 1984 in Vantaa ) is a Finnish professional ice hockey player who stands in July 2013 in the Tampa Bay Lightning in the National Hockey League contract. His older brother Ilari is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Valtteri Filppula started his career in 2000 in the U18 team of Jokerit Helsinki. After a good first season in 2001, he could switch to the A-team of juniors. With his power he fell there on the Scouts of the National Hockey League and the Detroit Red Wings and was selected in the summer of 2002 by Detroit in the third round of the NHL Entry Draft in 2002 at position 95. He stayed another year in the juniors, was able to increase his points yield and thus show what qualities he has as a striker.

In 2003, he was then brought to the professionals of Jokerit in the SM- liiga. End of December 2003 to early January 2004 saw the Ice Hockey World Junior Championship ( U20) instead. Finland won the bronze medal and Filppula was elected to the All-Star Team of the tournament. In the 2004/05 season the league was upgraded by some NHL stars that were changed to Europe because of the lockout in the NHL. In the playoffs, Jokerit failed only in the finale. Filppula scored 11 points in 12 playoff games and was in the final round of the second best scorer of his team.

In August 2005 he received his first contract with the Detroit Red Wings. The season 2005/ 06 he completed mainly in the Grand Rapids Griffins, the farm team of the Red Wings in the AHL. There he was able to convince with 70 points, came in the season but only four times for Detroit to use. After all, he was the first Finn, who played an NHL game for the Detroit Red Wings.

The 2006/07 season completed Filppula complete with the Red Wings in the NHL and established itself on the position of the center. With the Red Wings, he moved in the playoffs to the finals of the Western Conference a. The following season, he sat through on the center position of the second attack range and developed significantly with 19 goals and 17 assists on. In the playoffs, he came to a total of eleven points, which he scored two goals in the final series against the Pittsburgh Penguins, as the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup.

In summer 2008, Filppula got a new contract with the Red Wings with a term of five years. In July 2013, the Finn has signed a five-year contract with a total value of 25 million U.S. dollars at the Tampa Bay Lightning.
