Valverde, Sicily

Valverde is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 7870 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Valverde is located 12 km north of Catania on the southern slope of Mount Etna. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and industry ( in Catania).

The neighboring municipalities are Aci Bonaccorsi Aci Castello, Aci Catena, Aci Sant'Antonio, San Giovanni la Punta and San Gregorio di Catania.

History

The village of Valverde developed in the environment of the Sanctuary of the Madonna di Valverde from the 12th century.
