Valy Arnheim

Valy Arnheim, native Valentin Appel, ( born June 8, 1883 in Waldau, Bernburg, Saxony -Anhalt, † November 11, 1950 in Berlin) was a German actor and director for stage and film.

Life

Arnheim received his acting training at the theater director Rieckhoff in Riga. He began his stage career in 1904 with a position with the local Hagenberger theater. From 1910 he played in Libau, Bremen and Schaffhausen, sometimes he also took over directing duties.

His roles included Ferdinand in Kabale und Liebe, the Templar in Nathan the Wise, Marc Antony in Julius Caesar, the title characters in Clavigo and Torquato Tasso, Romeo in Romeo and Juliet, and Oswald in ghosts. From 1913 to 1914 he headed the Cines Theater in Berlin.

In 1917 he began his film career in which he focused in the coming years. Since 1918, he played in several episodes of the detective Harry Hill in Arnhem itself staged and produced successful film series. In the 30s and 40s, he still participated in numerous films, but usually only as little significant Supporting Actor. Arnhem turned back stronger in these years the theater. He was married to his first marriage to actress Marga Lindt.
