Van Buren County (Arkansas)
The Van Buren County is a county located in the U.S. state of Arkansas. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Clinton. The county is one of the Dry counties, which means that the sale of alcohol is restricted or prohibited.
Geography
The County is located about halfway between the geographical center of Arkansas and the northern border with Missouri. It has an area of 1,876 square kilometers, of which 33 square kilometers are water surface. At the Van Buren County borders the following counties:

The Van Buren County was formed on November 11, 1833 as 29 County in Arkansas from parts of Conway County, the Independence County Izard County and the. It was named after the later U.S. - President Martin Van Buren (1782-1862), who was Vice President at the time.
Demographic data
According to the census of 2000, there were 16,192 people in Van Buren County. Of these, 276 people were living in collective centers, the other residents living in 6,825 households and 4,804 families. The population density was 9 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was made up of 96.79 percent White, 0.31 percent African American, 0.75 percent Native American, 0.25 percent Asian, 0.04 percent of residents from the Pacific Islander and 0.37 percent from other races groups; 1.48 percent are descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity were 1.33 percent of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 6,825 households out of which 25.2 per cent of children or young people under the age of 18 who lived with them. 59.1 percent were married couples living together, 7.7 percent were single mothers, 29.6 percent were non-families. 26.4 percent of all households were single-person households, and 14.4 percent had someone living alone at the age of 65 years or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size is 2.79 people.
21.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 6.6 percent between 18 to 24, 23.0 percent between 25 and 44, 25.5 percent between 45 and 64 and 23.3 percent were 65 years or older. The average age was 44 years. For every 100 females there were 96.7 males to every 100 females age 18 and over, there were an average of 93.0 males.
The median income for a household was $ 27,004, and the median income for a family $ 32,284. Males have a median income of $ 25,821, women $ 18,862. The per capita income was $ 16,603. 11.6 percent of families and 15.4 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
