Vanadium (V) oxidtrichlorid is a chemical compound which is present in the form of a yellow hygroscopic liquid which rapidly hydrolyzed.
Production and representation
Vanadium ( V) is synthesized by the oxidtrichlorid chlorination of vanadium ( V) oxide or vanadium (III ) oxide.
Also possible is the preparation by heating by vanadium ( III) chloride in an oxygen stream.
Properties
Physical Properties
Vanadium ( V) is diamagnetic oxidtrichlorid as vanadium compound, and has a tetragonal structure with an O- V -Cl bond angles of 111 ° and a Cl - Cl bond V- angle of 108 °. The V -O and V - Cl bond lengths are 1.57 Å and 2.14 Å.
Chemical Properties
Vanadium (V) oxychloride POCl3 oxidtrichlorid chemically similar, but on the contrary, a strong oxidant. It is a Lewis acid and vanadium pentoxide is hydrolyzed quickly and hydrochloric acid.
Vanadium (V) oxidtrichlorid is also used for the synthesis of Vanadiumoxiddichlorid and Vanadiumoxidmonochlorid.
Use
Vanadium ( V) is used as oxidtrichlorid catalyst for olefin polymerization (for example, EPDM) and as an oxidizing agent for synthesis of Organovanadiumverbindungen and coupling reactions of phenols.
Safety
Vanadium ( V) - oxidtrichlorid is classified as carcinogenic ( category 2).
