Vanavana

Vanavana, also called Kurataki or Huataki, is a small atoll of the Tuamotu Archipelago in the Pacific Ocean. It belongs politically to French Polynesia and there to the community Tureia.

Vanavana is an uninhabited, narrow, oval atoll of about 5 km long and 3.2 km wide. The lagoon of the atoll measures 3 km ², land area about 2 km ².

1826 Vanavana was discovered by Frederick William Beechey and baptized by him in the name of Barrow Iceland, after Sir John Barrow.

On October 10, 1941, the crew of the German auxiliary cruiser Atlantis used the island to go the first time in ten months for a short time on land.
