History

Vancouver 86ers ( 1986-2001 )

Was founded in 1986 with the Vancouver 86ers, a new professional club. The name 86ers refers both to the founding year of the association as well as the founding year of the City of Vancouver ( 1886). The club played in the Canadian Soccer League ( CSL). Between 1988 and 1991, the 86ers were washed four times in a row champion of this league and presented with a series of 46 consecutive games without defeat set a record for North American professional sports leagues. After the CSL 1992 their gaming operations ceased, the 86ers of the American Professional Soccer League joined, later the A-League and today's USL First Division.

USL First Division (2001-2010)

Main rivals of the Whitecaps were the Seattle Sounders and the Portland Timbers. The three teams played annually by the " Cascadia Cup".
