Vanderbijlpark is a city in the province of Gauteng in South Africa. It lies on the River Vaal, extends over an area of ​​233 square kilometers and is situated at an altitude of 1468 meters above sea level. Vanderbijlpark is the seat of the municipality of Emfuleni.

History

The city was founded by Hendrik van der Bijl, a young scientist, in 1920. Van der Bijl was invited by the then Prime Minister Jan Smuts returned to his home country to work as a technical advisor to the government and to build an industrial area.
