Vani Gospels

Gospels Wani (Georgian ვანის ოთხთავი or ვანის სახარება, vɑnɪs ɔt ʰ ʰ χt ɑvɪ or vɑnɪs sɑχɑrɛbɑ ) is a Georgian manuscript liturgical book from the 12th to the 13th century with the Gospels of the New Testament. The text is written with the Georgian Georgian font Nuschuri in two columns. The title and the initials are written with the font Assomtawruli. The writing material is parchment. The size of a page is 29x21 cm; the columns are 19x5, 2 cm in size. The book contains 274 sheets.

The Gospel book is richly decorated with miniatures and ornamental decor. The gold leaf and gold and red ink is used liberally.

The Gospels Wani was written in the Georgian monastery in Constantinople Romana Opel from the Georgian calligraphers Ioane. The book was commissioned by the Georgian Queen Tamar in order and was afterwards her property. The editors of the text belongs to Giorgi Mtazmideli.

In the 14th and 15th century, the manuscript in Schorata monastery in Meskhetia was kept in the 18th century in Wani and in the 19th century Gelati Monastery. Today it is preserved in the Georgian National Handwriting center under the Signaturl A- 1335.
