Vankor Field

The oil and gas field Wankor (Russian Ванкорское нефтегазовое месторождение ) was discovered in 1988 in the district Turuchansk of Krasnoyarsk region in Siberia (Russia). The reserves are estimated at about 520 million tons of oil and 95 billion cubic meters of gas. On 21 August 2009 the field was officially put into operation. Wankor is now majority owned by the Russian oil company Rosneft, which invested from 2005 to 2009 a total of 6.5 billion U.S. dollars in the development of the deposit.

Geography

Wankor is located in the northern part of the West Siberian lowlands, 130 km west-northwest of the city on the Yenisei city Igarka. Passing the left-side Yenisei inflow Large Cheta flows with dortiger mouth of Lodotschnaja. It dominates the tundra.

History

Wankor was discovered in 1988 by Russian oil company OAO Jenisseineftegas. As part of the dissolution of the Soviet Union was the joint venture Jenisseineft, which was majority owned by the Anglo Siberian Oil Company, the license for exploration and development of the plant.

In April 2003, the State Oil Company Rosneft acquired in the course of a public offering on the London Stock Exchange, the majority of the Anglo Siberian Oil Company and could also take over the licenses held by Jenisseineft. 2004 Rosneft began with the first test drilling to explore the reservoir.

In August 2009 the official inauguration of the conveyors by Vladmir Putin followed. On 28 December 2009, the first cargo of crude oil from leaving the port of Wankor Kosmino at the end of the Eastern Siberia - Pacific Ocean pipeline.
