Vanoise Express

The Vanoise Express in Savoy (France ) is the largest double-decker cable car in the world.

Nature

It consists of two independent, parallel cable car systems, each with a cabin that connects the ski resorts of La Plagne and Les Arcs each other through the Vallée du Panthurin away without supports and enables the Paradiski. The stations in Montchavin (La Plagne ) and Plan Peisey (Les Arcs ) are at 1548 m and 1612 m altitude, so that the height difference is only 64 m. The Vanoise Express reaches a maximum height of 380 meters above ground and has a length of 1800 meters, which will be completed in 50 seconds 3 minutes.

The two cable car systems consist of an aerial tramway with only a cabin suspended from two support cables (75 mm). The pull cable (45 mm) is fed back above the support cables and for this purpose has two of its own suspension ropes (42 mm). Each cabin has two floors and accommodates 200 people plus the cabin companion. They are the present ( 2009) the largest cabin of a cableway world. A fully loaded car weighs 29 tons and travels at up to 12.5 m / s (45 km / h).

History

This cable car was built in the years 2002/2003 on behalf of Compagnie des Alpes by POMA, a French company, which is connected with the South Tyrolean Leitner AG. The investment amounted to about 15 million euros. The plant was officially opened in December 2003. During the 2007/2008 season, the company was initially set as the supporting cables had damage no longer allowed for a safe operation. In the summer of 2008, the ropes were replaced, so the cable car to the start of the season on 20 December 2008, re-open.
