Varaville

Varaville is a commune in the Calvados department in the Basse -Normandie. Varaville belongs to the canton and arrondissement Cabourg Caen.

Geography

Varaville is geographically the largest municipality on the Côte Fleurie. It consists of the seaside resort, Le Home and the older part called Le Bourg, which is surrounded by fields and swamps.

The three-kilometer -long sandy beach with a dune are some interesting old mansions. The sea water is of good quality and classified as A.

Varaville borders the following municipalities: Merville- Franceville- Plage in the northwest, Cabourg and Dives- sur -Mer in the northeast, Périers -en- Auge in the east, Brucourt the southeast, Goustranville and Bavent in the south, Petiville in the southwest and Gonneville -en- eye in the west.

Demographics

The population has risen sharply in the second half of the 20th century.

Economy

In addition to agriculture today tourism is playing the lead role in the economy of the community. In the last 100 years, many second homes are created in the municipality.
