Varciani

The Varcianer (Latin Varciani ) were according to Ptolemy ( Geographike Hyphegesis II 15), a Celtic tribe in the upper valley of the Sava to the south of the Roman province of Pannonia. Its main town, said to have been a Varceia mentioned by the ancient authors place, but this can not be localized. Their nearest neighbors were the Latobiker, originally settled beside the Helvetii in the present scheme, the pressure of Germanic peoples, however, had to move to the southeast. Whether the Varcianer had a similar fate, has not yet been determined. During the Pannonian revolt in the years 6 to 9 AD is an inscription proves that Varcianer were recruited by the Roman army.
