Vardan Militosyan

Vartan Militosjan (Armenian Վարդան Միլիտոսյան, born June 13, 1950 in Leninakan [ Gyumri ] ) is a former Soviet weightlifter Armenian descent. He won at the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, the silver medal in the middleweight division and in 1976 and 1978 European champion at middleweight.

Career

Vartan Militosjan grew up in Leninakan and began as a teenager with the weight lifting. He was a member of Spartak Leninakan. The 1,70 m tall athlete first started out in the lightweight and middleweight from 1973. In the enormously strong competition in the former Soviet Union, it took until 1975 before he could draw attention to themselves even at international events for the first time.

In 1975 he won at the Soviet Championships in the middleweight division at 325 kg ( 140-185 ) with the 3rd place behind Valentin Mikhailov, Valery Smirnov and 327.5 kg, 325 kg for the first time a medal. In the same year, he still won a tournament then the Soviet Weightlifting Association in Zaporozhye in the middleweight division and rose while in a duel to 330 kg ( 145-185 ).

There he scored only 327.5 kilograms ( 142.5 to 185 ) and had to settle for sixth place finish.
