Varennes- Jarcy is a commune, with 2,360 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ) in the department of Essonne in the Ile- de -France region; it belongs to the district Evry and the canton of Epinay- sous- Sénart.

  • Foundations and capitals of the Royal Abbey Gercy (later Jarcy ). The Augustinian Abbey of the Order of Saint -Victor was founded in 1260 by Alfonso of Poitiers, brother of Saint Louis, and his wife Joan of Toulouse, who was buried here. The abbey existed until 1794 and was then destroyed.
