Varenye

In Warenje (also varenie or Warenie; Russian Варенье ) is a jam-like substance that is dissolved in tea or hot water.

The difference to jam or marmalade is that the fruit is not comminuted in general and boiled with sugar - a gelling agent is not added. Due to its much more liquid consistency it is not very good as a spread. Warenje is used mainly in Russia and Georgia, and is scarcely available and can best be compared with cranberries in the glass in its original form in Germany.

Warenje is mainly made of strawberries, currants, raspberries, cherries, apricots and apples.
