Daughters descendants

Since the genealogy of Varnhagenschen total family dates back to the 16th century, even the daughters of progeny is spread accordingly. In this context, it is worth stressing the interdependence of Varnhagen in the female line. Johann Adolph Varnhagen (* 1645) was mayor and a PhD doctor in Altena. His daughter Anna Maria Varnhagen was married to Eberhard Schmidt from Altena, whose mother was probably born a Varnhagen from Iserlohn. Their son was Johann Adolf Schmidt, who after the early death of his father to his uncle, the pharmacist Johann Moritz Varnhagen (* 1687 ), was sent to learn the " art pharmacist ". But in Varnhagenschen budget it would appear that he came to tensions, as the aunt in the young Schmidt saw a competition for their own children. Schmidt founded in Korbach the Hirsch Pharmacy, which was located to the 20th century in the family. Schmidt was married twice, his first wife Friederike Baroness Forester and from Gelnhausen. A granddaughter of this first marriage was to writer and teacher of Wilhelmine Halberstadt. From the second marriage of Johann Adolf Schmidt was born a daughter, who were, the ancestress of the Waldecker Varnhagen in turn, as two of their daughters Varnhagen cousin got married. Their descendants include inter alia Visconde de Porto Seguro, Hermann Varnhagen, Rector of the University of Erlangen, and Hermann Kümmell, co-founder of the Hamburg University, first dean of the medical faculty and rector ibid.
