Varro Atacinus

Publius Terentius Varro (* 82 BC, † 35 BC) was a Roman poet. He was born in the province of Gallia Narbonensis, near the river Atax, today Aude. After his origin he is called Atacinus, to distinguish it from Marcus Terentius Varro, called after its origin as Reatinus ( from Reate ).

His works are lost except for fragments. He composed a panegyrisches epic entitled Bellum Sequanicum Caesar's campaign against Ariovistus in 58 BC, as well as satires and transferred the Argonautica of the Alexandrian poet Apollonius of Rhodes into Latin. Other works were Chorographia ( a yellowing dedicated geographical didactic poem ) and ephemeris ( a transfer of part of Phainomena of Aratus of Soli into Latin ).
