Vartholomio (Greek Βαρθολομιό (n. sg. ) ) Is a small town on the Kyllini Peninsula in the east of the Peloponnese peninsula on the right lower reaches of the river Pinios, which flows east of the area of Vatholomio into the Ionian Sea.

Vartolomio 1912 recognized as a rural community ( kinotita ) and collected 1989 municipality ( dimos ). In the following years, numerous villages in the area were incorporated. With the incorporation into the newly created municipality Pinios January 1, 2011 Vartholomio was one of the four municipal districts.

The place originally bore the name Valtochori ( Βαλτοχώρι, swamp village ') and Vatrachochori ( Βατραχοχώρι, frog village '), a reference to the swamps in Pinios Valley. The current name will go back to a knight of the 1204 ruling to 1430 francs named Bartholome or Barthélémy II Guise, hellenized first as Vartholomeo ( Βαρθολομαίο ).

During the Greek Revolution Vartholomio was on November 10, 1825 scene of a battle who fled to the fortress Chlemoutsi Greek population against the troops of the Egyptian General Ibrahim Pasha, who conquered the area and cruel for some years dominated. Only after the Battle of Navarino in 1827 also Vartholomio was finally liberated and part of the newly established Greece.

In 1988, the epicenter of a major earthquake in Vartholomio.

Vartoholomio has some beautiful beaches, so the of Thines and situated on the border with Kastro -Kyllini beach of Arkoudi. A recreation destination is the pine forest of Thines. The Municipal Ethnographic Museum, founded in 2000 gathered testimonials and memorabilia from the history of the community such as costumes, interiors and tools. To visit is also a monastery of the Holy Eleousa.
