Vasculum

As a botanist, we describe a oblong- cylindrical metal container ( 40 cm × 12 cm diameter ), which is usually worn on a strap over the shoulder and is used for protected transport traveling collected plants.

The name is derived from the obsolete word botanising for " collecting of plants". The purpose of collecting and protected transport is the botanizing, thus determining the plant, which is easier with an undamaged copy as with a crumpled.

In the period before the invention of color photography, the only way to document the specific plants, the copying or creating a herbarium, for the well-preserved specimens was required.

More modern alternatives would freezer bags or clear plastic folder in which no plant parts may be lost and can be seen at first glance, what has already been collected.
