Origin and Meaning
The name Vasily also contributed a number of Russian princes. This can be explained from the Greek origin of the name ( Вασιλευς ), which means there king. In Ukraine and Bulgaria, the name in the local language, however, is shortened Vasil. The Latin, occurring mainly as a monk name in the German form of the name is Basil; an English and Arabic form is Basil.
