Vasile Maftei ( born January 1, 1981 in Fălticeni ) is a Romanian football player at the position of central defender.
Maftei began his career at Tractorul Brasov, in 2001 he moved to first division club Rapid Bucharest. In his first season the club by third parties and Cup Winners' Cup was Maftei and made his debut at international level ( UEFA Cup ). The following year, the first championship of his career was brought, which could not be repeated in the 2003/04 season with third place. The seasons 2005/ 06 and 2006/ 07 were marked by successes; next to the runner-up title in 2006 and fourth place in 2007 the trophy was brought in two years.
After Rapid Bucharest 2007/ 08 once again was third in the team Mafteis last season 2008/ 09 was only eight, what Rapid, not allowed to play internationally for the first time, was active there since the center-back. Then he moved the beginning of the 2009/10 season at that current Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni. With this club he could for the first time to qualify for the UEFA Champions League and joined in the group stage against clubs such as FC Sevilla Glasgow Rangers and VfB Stuttgart.
In January 2011 Maftei Urziceni left and moved on to league rivals CFR Cluj, but at first could not prevail there. Only in the second half of 2011/12 he became a regular player and won his second championship at the end of the season.
His debut for the Romanian national team was Maftei on 24 May 2005 in a friendly against Moldova. He was substituted at half-time, the match ended 2-1. This was followed by eleven other games as well as a goal.
