Vasile Tiţă

J. Vasile Tita ( born February 21, 1928 in Bucharest, † June 24, 2013 ) was a Romanian boxer at middleweight. He was the silver medalist at the Olympic Games 1952.

Career

His first major international appearance was Tita in May 1950 at the International Tournament, which was held to mark the 25th anniversary of the Polish boxing federation in Warsaw. Tita lost there in the semi-final against the reigning Olympic and European champion Laszlo Papp. In September 1950 in front of 15,000 spectators at Tita lost Bucharest Stadionul Republicii in the framework of the country struggle against Czechoslovakia against the reigning Olympic champion as Julius Torma in the weight class up to 67 kg.

1952 launched the boxer, nicknamed Printul din Obor ( " Prince of Obor " ) was, at the 15th Olympic Summer Games in Helsinki. He defeated while Willie Duggan from Ireland, Nelson Andrade from Brazil, Walter Sentimenti from Italy and Boris Nikolov of Bulgaria, before he gave up in the final against Floyd Patterson in the U.S. after 20 seconds.

At the European Championships 1953 in Warsaw, he lost in the quarterfinals against Dieter Wemhöner. Also at the European Championships in 1955 in West Berlin, he was defeated in the quarterfinals against Bedřich Koutný. At the European Championships 1957 in Prague, he had already in the preliminaries of the Belgian Victor Raes beaten. However, he still won a bronze medal at the first international army championships in the GDR.

Tita was 1951-1957 seven times in a row, Romanian Champion: 1951-1953 and 1955-1957 in the Light Middleweight (71 kg) and 1954 in the middleweight division. In the last ten years of his life he suffered from Alzheimer 's disease.
