Vasily Stasov

Vasily Petrovich Stasov ( Russian Василий Петрович Стасов, Research Vasily Petrovich Stasov transliteration; born 24 Julijul / August 1769greg 4 in Moscow, .. .. † 24 Augustjul / September 5 1848greg in Saint Petersburg ) was a Russian architect of classicism, which was instrumental in the design of St. Petersburg.

Stasov studied at the Moscow State University and, after he had trained since 1802 by a six year old France, England and stay in Italy from 1808 in the service of the Russian Tsar farm one of the most important architects of St. Petersburg. He designed, among other things Paul barracks at the Field of Mars, the interior of the Winter Palace and led by the partial redesign of the Catherine Palace at Tsarskoye Selo and the Lyceum. The Alexander Nevsky Memorial Church in Potsdam was in a reduced form after his design for the now destroyed Desjatin Church in Kiev.

His grave is located on the Lazarus Cemetery at the Alexander Nevsky Monastery.

The influential art critic Vladimir Vasilyevich Stasov (1824-1906) was his son.
