VASKhNIL

The Soviet Academy of Agricultural Sciences WI Lenin (Russian Всесоюзная академия сельскохозяйственных наук имени В. И. Ленина ) was named after Lenin Soviet Academy of Agricultural Science ( AdL ). It included a network of research institutions across the entire Soviet Union, and existed from 1929 until 1992.

Between 1930 and 1940, the Academy provided the platform for the rise of Trofim Denisovich Lysenko. Lysenko tried to impose its views neolamarckistischen what happened to the extent, had disastrous consequences for agriculture of the USSR. In the time of the close cooperation between the Western Allies and the Soviet Union against Hitler to the immediate post-war period succeeded the Soviet geneticists to use the Western research successfully as a " second front " against Lysenko.

This was reversed with the onset of the Cold War. The proverbial " August meeting " ( July 31 - August 7, 1948) under the leadership of Stalin had drastic consequences. Lysenko's conduct speech " On the situation of biology " has been transformed with the help of Stalin in a formal ban against the so-called Mendelian Weismann -Morgan genetics. And thus the modern theory of heredity itself - - For the teachings of Gregor Mendel, August Weismann's and Thomas Hunt Morgan were discarded in the Soviet Union until the 1960s.

The GDR was so far a special path, as Hans Stubbe in the 1950s, Lysenko's views on inheritance of acquired characteristics, and thus refuted the Academy institutes in the GDR remained possible genetic research.
