Vasyl Tsushko

Vasyl Petrovych Zuschko ( Ukrainian: Василь Петрович Цушко; born 1 February 1963 in Nadritschne, Rajon Tarutyne in the Odessa Oblast ) is a Ukrainian politician. He was from December 2006 to September 2007 Minister of the Interior, and from March until December 2010 Minister of Economy of Ukraine. In December 2010, he was appointed Chairman of the top Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine, the Antimonopoly Committee, appointed.

Biography

Vasyl Zuschko was born in the small town Nadritschne in the Odessa Oblast and initially graduated from the agricultural vocational school for mechanics and electronics. After his military service in the Soviet Army, he studied at the Agricultural Institute in Odessa, reaching there a degree in economics. He first exercised executive functions in farms.

Since 1994 until 2006 it belonged to the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada on. First, he was a member of the Group of Peasants' Party of Ukraine, he is since 2002 member of the Socialist Party of Ukraine ( SPU), at times he was also leader of the SPU in the Rada.

In 2005 he joined the University from the Ministry of Interior with the qualification as a lawyer. From 2005 to 2006 he was chairman of the Odessa Regional State Administration.

In December 2006, the Rada elected him Minister of the Interior of Ukraine, Zuschko was in this office the successor of Yuriy Lutsenko. Unlike Lutsenko Zuschko had agreed to form a coalition after parliamentary elections in March 2006 with the Party of Regions of Viktor Yanukovych.

End of May 2007, during violent internal political conflict in Ukraine between the then President Viktor Yushchenko and Prime Minister Yanukovych suffered Zuschko a heart attack and was temporarily medical treatment in Germany. In September 2007, he announced his retirement from ministerial office for health reasons. The claim Zuschkos that he had been poisoned by political opponents, was never officially confirmed.

After Viktor Yanukovych became president of Ukraine in early 2010, Zuschko was appointed in March 2010 to the Minister of Economy of Ukraine. As part of a government reform that accompanied the resolution of some ministries, he lost this office. Since December 2010 he has been Chairman of the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine and thus the top antitrust authority in the country.

From July 2010 to August 2011 Zuschko was chairman of the Socialist Party of Ukraine.
