Vatatzes

The Byzantine military family Vatatzes (or Vataches ) introduced in the 13th century three emperors, beginning in Nikaia, later in Constantinople Opel:

  • John III. (1222-1254)
  • Theodore II (1254-1258)
  • John IV (1258-1261)

Since Theodore II (also) wore his mother's surname, Laskaris, the younger generations of Batatzes are usually performed under the name Laskaris.
