Vatrushka

A Watruschka ( Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian Ватрушка ) is a quark bag, which stems from the Eastern European cuisine. The name is derived from the Ukrainian word Watra ( ватра, to German fire) from.

Watruschkas are usually made from yeast dough. This will initially be rolled out and cut into small portions. In the middle of some saucers -sized pieces of dough a quark mass is given. The mass may vary by recipe, among others, raisins, apples or berries contain. The edges of the dough are then folded down so that the curd remains visible in the middle. The dough is allowed to go, brushed with egg yolk and butter, then baked in the oven.
