Vaugondry

Vaugondry was a municipality in the district of Jura-Nord Vaudois in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland. On 1 July 2011, the municipality merged with Vaugondry Romairon, Fontanezier and Villars -Burquin the new community Tévenon.

Geography

Vaugondry is located on 731 m above sea level. M., 7 km north of the district capital Yverdon- les- Bains ( straight line ). The farming village stretches along the Jura south slope, in a scenic location around 300 m above the lake level of Lake Neuchâtel.

The area of ​​only 0.8 square kilometers just great former municipal area comprises a narrow section on the southern slopes of the Chasseron chain. Population

With 35 inhabitants ( 31 December 2010) Vaugondry was one of the smallest municipalities of the canton of Vaud and Switzerland. Of the 84.2 % inhabitants are French-speaking, 7.9 % and 5.3 % portugiesischsprachig in German (as of 2000). The population of Vaugondry amounted in 1900 to 60 residents, but then took by strong migration to 1980 from 25 inhabitants. Since then is again observed a slight upward trend.

Economy

The nearest bus stop is on the line Yverdon - Mauborget is located in Villars -Burquin.

History

The place name is probably derived from Vallis Gunderici (Valley of the Gundric ). Vaugondry belonged in the Middle Ages to the rule Grandson. After 1476 Grandson was a bailiff under the general rule of Bern and Fribourg. After the collapse of the ancien régime Vaugondry belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud.

Attractions

In Vaugondry some characteristic farmhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries have been preserved, which have over the casing of stone, a wooden gallery. The place does not have its own church, he belongs to the parish Villars -Burquin.
